At Vortex, we always strive to do our best, whether it be building a new site for a client or supporting them on a daily basis. As part of this work we do, we have the opportunity to enter into many of the industry awards that exist today to put forward the hard work we have put in and to get recognised by our peers. Entering awards can do so many positive things for your business, and is something all business owners and directors should consider doing within their industry if possible. Industry awards can generate many positive things such as free marketing for your business, allow you to benchmark yourself against others in the industry, receive increased credibility, motivation for employees (as winning or being shortlisted can boost company morale) and it can also attract potential new employees, clients or customers to your company knowing that you have been recognised within your industry on a local or national scale, which can bring in big business! After a successful 2017, we’ve had a look back across the past year at Vortex in awards…

Horizon Interactive Awards – As a lot of awards take place towards the second half of the year, the first half of the year tends to be quieter. It was certainly a surprise in this case then, that we found ourselves winning not only ‘Gold’ level, but ‘Best in Category’ for the ‘Web: eCommerce’ category in the Horizon Interactive Awards in January for our work with our client, Ribble Cycles. We entered for this in December before finishing work for Christmas, so discovering out how well the site had done came as a fantastic way to kick off 2017. The awards are based in Indiana, USA and state, “winners of the Horizon Award are recognized worldwide as the top designers and developers of websites, mobile apps, videos and more”.

Big Chip Interactive AwardsThe Big Chip Awards are the largest digital awards outside London and the longest running in the UK. Based in Manchester, the awards are great for Northern digital and eCommerce industries. In April it was announced we were nominated for a ‘Big Chip Transformation Award’ with our clients, AKW. This was the first year this particular category was active and we were thrilled to be part of it. The ceremony took place in June and we unfortunately missed out on the top spot to worthy winners, but we consider being recognised as a success in itself!

eCommerce AwardsThe eCommerce Awards for Excellence take place every year in London in September. They’re open to “online retailers, relevant agencies and any company with a website and online presence”. We put forward the Ribble website and ‘Bike Builder’ in the ‘Best Leisure, Entertainment, Sport, Travel & Holidays eCommerce’ category, along with an entry for AKW in the ‘Best B2B eCommerce’ category. We were thrilled to find out we were finalists in July last year!

Northern eCommerce Awards – As a sister award ceremony of the above, we were hoping to strike it lucky in the regional version of the awards, the Northern eCommerce Awards. We entered the awards with the same entries in the same categories as above, and once again managed to make it to the finals – just escaping the win!

UK Digital Experience Awards These awards are some of the biggest in the industry and are held in London in December on an annual basis – after winning with Ribble in the ‘Best B2C’ category in 2016, we were hoping to emulate the previous year’s success. We entered with our clients AKW into the ‘Business Transformation’ category and managed to round off a year of awards by being shortlisted for our entry once again! DXA is quoted as saying “To win or be shortlisted at the DXAs is a great honour that identifies you as superior in your industry.”

Awards can be great for your business and offer your peers and the public an insight into the work you do as a company, agency or individual. We can’t wait to enter some exciting new projects we’re working on into awards this year!
